Chinese electric vehicle (EV) startups Nio and Xpeng Motors last week agreed to share charging services for the convenience of their respective customers, according to local reports.

Under the agreement, Nio Power and Xpeng's home charging service system will connect their charging network data and payment processes, allowing customers to use both charging networks at no extra cost.

Third party smartphone apps already enable electric vehicle owners to access public charging networks across the country, helping them to locate charging stations, check whether they are in use, recharge and pay.

Nio's vice-president Shen Fei said his company already had similar collaboration with most charging suppliers and Xpeng was just the latest to link up.

"Our goal is to give users a better charging experience and provide the most convenient and efficient facilities no matter what app they use," he added.

Nio had 1,070 charging points across China by the end of October, according to data from the China Electric Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance.
