Nexteer is confirming more than 3,000 UAW members at its Saginaw plant in Michigan have inked a five-year contract after a strike earlier this month surrounding pay.
The UAW previously said it had reached “tentative agreement” with Nexteer through its Local 699 affiliate, but the deal has now been approved by members.
“The contract has been signed and the UAW agreed on terms proposed by our company,” a Nexteer spokesman told just-auto from the supplier’s steering plant in Tychy, Poland.
“Right now we are obviously happy we have a final result of the negotiations and happy we have reached agreement with the UAW.
“It [was] 9 December when there were some disagreements, when people were out of the plant [on strike]. For now, the UAW people are working.”
For his part, UAW Local 699 president, Rick Burzynski added: “The people have spoken and that’s the vote,” while further details are due to be divulged from Saginaw to just-auto later today (22 December).
