New Zealand new car registrations rose 13.4% year on year in February to 4,302 units, the New Zealand Transport Agency said.
Used car registrations – generally imported used cars – rose 42.6% to 6,761 last month and new commercial vehicle registrations were up 22.8% to 1,327, up 22.8 percent from the previous month.

The top selling make for the month was Toyota with 551 new cars, followed by General Motors’ Holden (433) and Ford (402).
New car sales have for the second month in a row exceeded 2009 volumes, the Motor Industry Association (MIA) said.
February has seen both new car and commercial registrations above 2009 volumes, with passenger cars up 13.3% on the same month last year. Commercial vehicle registrations showed a similar trend being up 7.4% on February 2009 and also up 23.1% on January 2010.
MIA CEO Perry Kerr said: “These numbers are further proof of the confidence expressed last month – that the motor industry is on a steadily improving path with better results yet to come.”
