New Zealand's March 2019 new vehicle registration figures were down 5.4% year on year to 13,271 units.
Year to date, the Antipodean market was down 3.7% to 38,855, "indicating a softening market", according to the local Motor Industry Association (MIA).
The total registrations of passenger cars and SUVs for March 2019 were down 6.9% while commercial vehicles were also down, by 2.7%.
Toyota remained the overall market leader with 13% market share followed by Ford (10%) and Mitsubishi (9%).
Toyota was also the market leader for passenger and SUV registrations with 11% market share followed by Mazda (10%) and Honda (8%).
Top selling passenger and SUV models for the month were the Kia Sportage (379) Mazda CX-5 (310) and Toyota Corolla (301).
