Toyota Motor has launched the new generation Camry mid-size passenger sedan in Japan, produced at its Tsutsumi plant near Tokyo.
This is the Camry's first full-model changeover in six years and was developing using the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) system, which uses a common platform and parts across model segments to help reduce costs.

Prior to the new Camry, the only models developed so far under the TNGA system were the Prius and C-HR.
The new hybrid Camry is fitted with a new 2.5-litre I4 petrol engine, which replaces the 2AR, and the THS II hybrid system. The car, so far available in Japan only as a hybrid, has a fuel consumption of 33km/litre.
The engine has a power output of 88kW and the two electric motors are power by a lithium-ion battery pack.
The company has set a monthly sales target of 2,400 units with prices starting at JPY3,294,000 (US$29,940) after tax.
