Mitsubishi Motors’ deal to supply Peugeot- and Citroen-badged versions to PSA effectively will double its European volume of the redesigned Outlander.

Mitsubishi has just staged the pan-European press launch of the Outlander with individual country sales unit sales beginning shortly.

Mitsubishi Motors Europe (MME) spokesman Daniel Nacass told just-auto on Monday that the Outlander sales target for Europe is 30,000 units a year and (as previously announced) there will be another 30,000 units for PSA, which begins selling its versions in the summer.

Although its dealers will now have competition from PSA’s network selling very similar models, MME looks set to gain an additional diesel engine option from the PSA tie-up.

The Outlander launches in Europe with a 138bhp VW-supplied turbodiesel, with a 2.4-litre petrol ‘world engine’ following later but is likely also to be offered with PSA’s own 154hp 2.2-litre engine, badged HDi for Citroen and Peugeot.

However, Nacass cautioned: “We are still discussing this issue with our French partners. No final decision has been reached yet.”

He added that the engine supply deal is separate from the one signed between MMC and PSA for MMC to will supply PSA with vehicles based on the Outlander.
