AvtoVAZ has revealed the replacement for the 1110-series Lada Kalina, the B-segment car that has been the Russian market’s best selling vehicle for the year to date.

The replacement for the long-lived Kalina had its world premiere at the Moscow motor show. Both five-door hatchback (1119 replacement) and wagon (succeeds the 1117) body styles are presently on show at the event. Each is due to reach Lada dealers across Russia and in export markets during 2013.

The Kalina five-door and wagon have the same 2,476mm wheelbase as the existing Lada Granta. This small sedan was launched in 2011 as a standalone model to replace the Kalina 1118. All of these cars use a modified version of Renault’s B-Zero architecture as introduced by the Dacia Logan back in 2005. This platform was derived from the second generation Renault Clio.

The Kalina’s dimensions are quoted as follows: 3,893mm/4,084m long (hatchback/wagon), 1,700mm wide; 1,500mm/1,504mm high (hatchback/wagon).

Cars for the Russian market will be offered with the choice of 64kW (8v) or 72kW (16v) versions of a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

AvtoVAZ will build the new Kalina at its Toglitti works. The giant complex continues to see large investments, with Nissan presently preparing to launch series production of the new Almera sedan there too.

A C-segment crossover for the Lada brand is also said to be under development. A preview in the form of the XRAY concept was revealed at the Moscow show. This design study followed the C-Cross concept which had been exhibited at the 2008 Moscow show.
