Chrysler has revealed a new, turbocharged version of the Fiat 500 for North America’s 2013 model year.

The additional variant features a bodykit and boasts 34hp more than the standard 500 but 25hp fewer than the 500 Abarth*. Its engine is a 135hp 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit. The induction system of this MultiAir-branded engine includes two intercoolers.

Chrysler is claiming a segment-exclusive by offering a Beats by Dr. Dre audio system in the Cinquecento Turbo. The option package comprises six premium speakers, an 8-inch dual-voice coil (DVC) subwoofer with trunk-mounted enclosure and eight-channel 368-watt amplifier with Beats Audio digital sound processing (DSP) algorithm.

The 2013 Fiat 500 Turbo is due to reach dealers on the North American continent in the autumn. As Chrysler already exports the 500 to Brazil from its Toluca plant in Mexico, this one may be headed there too. The Fiat 500 sold in Europe and certain other regions is built in Poland and will not feature the new engine.

*in North American markets, Abarth is not a brand but merely a Fiat trim level
