Mitsubishi Motors and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) have agreed to co-develop a system that enables electric vehicles (EVs) to power homes in case of blackouts.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed this week which provides a framework for the two entities to work together to develop a system for the Thai market that allows homes to be powered by electric and hybrid vehicle batteries during power cuts.

The Japanese automaker already has a similar system in Japanese. That is based on that country's 100 volt, 60Hz domestic electricity while Thailand ga a 230 volt, 50Hz grid.
In a joint statement, the two partners said they would develop, test and compile data for energy conversion from EV batteries to the country's power grid.
The automaker's Outlander plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model would be used as the base model for the project which would be based at EGAT's national control centre at its headquarters in the Bang Kruay district of Nonthaburi province.
Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) plans to begin production of the Outlander PHEV at its plant in Chonburi province in 2021.
It has also just announced its second PHEV – a variant of the newer, smaller Eclipse Cross crossover line.
