Around 42,000 auto-related workers have lost their jobs in the Mexican manufacturing and assembly sectors up to mid-March 2001, according to INEGI, the country’s statistics institute.

A Chrysler assembly plant closure in Distrito Federal cost 2,600 jobs and a DaimlerChrysler closure in Coahuila cost almost 24,000.
