Mexico’s vehicle exports rose 1.3% in October compared with a year ago amid increasing US demand, an industry group told Reuters.

The country exported 104,564 vehicles, the AMIA auto industry group reportedly said. Total production was 142,725 vehicles in October, up 0.4% compared to October 2003.


The report noted that Mexico’s motor industry has been stagnant in recent months despite a domestic economic recovery. Despite October’s growth exports were still down 6.7% in the first 10 months of 2004 compared with the year-earlier period. Production was down 2.5% in the first 10 months of 2004 compared with the year-earlier period.


Reuters said the lone consistent bright spot for the industry this year has been domestic sales, which jumped 12% in October to 91,341 vehicles compared with a year ago.
