Nissan Mexico has produced its 10 millionth engine at its powertrain plant in Aguascalientes.

The milestone HR16 engine with XTronic transmission was headed for a Nissan Versa built for the US.

Aguascalientes produces seven types of engines on four different production lines, manufacturing 217 units an hour or one every 16 seconds. The engines are for Sentra, Versa, March, Note, Tiida, Tsuru, NP300, NV200 and Livina models assembled in two plants in Aguascalientes, the new one in Cuernavaca and other sites worldwide.

The plant is currently preparing two extra lines to produce two new engines, including a hybrid version for the US. In 2014, the powertrain plant will produce 834,000 engines for the car plants plus additional units for the aftermarket.
