The Mexican subsidiary of Japanese automaker Nissan has denied reports it plans to shut down production for seven days at its plant in the central of state of Aguascalientes, according to a report in Mexican financial daily El Economista.
Media reports last week regarding the planned shutdown were based on comments made by union leaders at the plant, who blamed what they described as a slump in sales of the company’s Sentra model in the United States.

But a three-day shutdown at the plant this week, said by the union to be an emergency measure, is in fact a benefit for employees that Nissan negotiated with the union several months ago, El Economista auto industry columnist Guillermo Lira reported.
Nissan Mexicana this year will launch a major plan to boost exports to South America, Central America and the Caribbean, Lira added.
