More details of Nissan’s Infiniti car building joint venture with Daimler in Mexico have come to light.
The pair are building a US$1.4bn plant in northern Aguascalientes, Mexico.

About 5,700 workers will be employed in the plant, which initially will make Infiniti models, International Business Times reported citing El Financiero.
Nissan, which opened its first plant there in 1966, currently manufactures around 800,000 vehicles a year in Mexico. This will rise to 1.1m once the plant becomes operational in 2017.
The company’s Mexican production rose by around 19% in 2014. At present, Nissan accounts for about 25% of the country’s total vehicle production.
In 2014, the company sold 267,000 vehicles domestically, and exported 538,000 units from Mexico.
By 2018, Daimler will start manufacturing Mercedes-Benz vehicles at the shared Aguascalientes plant. These vehicles will be exported to the Middle East, Brazil, Colombia and other foreign markets.
