Former GM, Ford and Tower Automotive executive Kathleen Ligocki has joined the auto unit of Grupo Salinas which markets Chinese-made cars produced by First Auto Works (FAW) in Mexico.

Ligocki is now chief executive officer of GS Motors, Grupo Salinas’ company “dedicated to transportation”.
“We will combine the enormous strengths of Banco Azteca and the Elektra stores to take our superior quality vehicles to new market segments in Mexico,” she said.
Ligocki spent 30 years in the auto industry, including posts as president and chief executive officer of Ford Mexico, marketing vice-president for North America and global vice-president of customer service for Ford.
She was most recently president and CEO of tier one supplier Tower Automotive.

By GlobalDataBeford Ford, Ligocki held senior roles at United Technologies Corporation and United Technologies Automotive, and executive posts in manufacturing, engineering, sales and finance at General Motors.
“Kathleen has been deeply involved with the automobile industry, from market preferences to the most efficient manufacturing techniques, and has a clear vision to optimise the development of the FAW cars that we [sell],” said Grupo Salinas chairman Ricardo Salinas.
He added that Javier Sarro Cortina – the Grupo Elektra CEO responsible for the negotiations with FAW and the successful launch of the automobile business – would assist Ligocki in her new role.
