Ford ‘s new interest in the rapidly growing compact vehicle market in Mexico will soon see the company expand its network of distributorships south of the border, according to a report in Mexican financial daily El Economista.

Ford senior marketing executive Tim Leckey said current estimates of growth in Mexico’s new car market indicate that Ford will need to expand its distribution network in the country, El Economista auto industry columnist Guillermo Lira reported.

Leckey said the automaker will evaluate plans to expand its distribution network, based on relationships with current local agents.


As recently as several years ago, Ford did not offer any compact cars for sale in Mexico.


With the recent introduction of its Ikon model, manufactured locally in a plant in Mexico City, Ford expects to see sales volume rise, its client base broaden and increased demand for vehicle servicing at its dealerships throughout the country.
