Mercedes-Benz sales fell 6.7% year on year to 180,539 vehicles with the company blaming model changeovers for the fall.

It nonetheless expects to slightly increase its worldwide unit sales overall, and to achieve another record in 2019.

In Europe, sales fell 11.2% ti 57,963 vehicles. German sales were off 11.9% to  19,296.

Asia-Pacific region volume dipped 1.3% to 93,234 vehicles but China sales were up 4.8% to 71,697 units. 

NAFTA region sales fell 11.5% to 26,068 vehicles in January (-11.5%) with US sales down 11.1% to 22,507.

SUV sales last month fell 15.9% though C-Class volume was up 2.8%. Worldwide deliveries of the recently redesigned A-Class rose around 35% in January.

Smart sales last month fell 10.1% to 8,297 but the brand was up 8% in Germany and by "double-digit" in France.
