May Mobility, a US-based developer of autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, has secured an undisclosed investment from Singapore-based ride-hailing firm Grab Holdings.

The companies signed a multi-year partnership under which May Mobility’s autonomous driving software will be integrated with Grab’s fleet management, routing and vehicle-matching systems.

Grab will also provide access to its mapping platform, GrabMaps, to support localisation of May Mobility’s vehicles and to study regional road infrastructure.

Dr. Edwin Olson, CEO and founder of May Mobility, said: “Grab is not only a mobility and technology leader, but also an innovator in AV adoption across Southeast Asia.

“Their belief in our technology, along with our shared urgency to bring autonomous vehicles to people around the world, will power May’s next stage of growth.”

May Mobility’s driving system uses a Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) framework that evaluates many potential scenarios per second and selects a manoeuvre based on that analysis.

The company has said this approach reduces dependence on extensive, geography-specific training data and supports adaptation to different driving regimes, including left-hand traffic.

The agreement includes collaboration on workforce transition and skills development, with Grab and May Mobility identifying training and upskilling opportunities for drivers who may move into AV-related roles.

This partnership is May Mobility’s third ride-hail tie-up and follows recent integrations with platforms in the US.

The two firms said they are planning an initial joint deployment in Southeast Asia and will continue to evaluate additional technical cooperation and wider use of GrabMaps to support May Mobility’s international expansion.

Dominic Ong, general manager of autonomous at Grab, said: “We see our partnership with May Mobility as a powerful synergy of hyperlocal expertise and global capabilities. We are excited to learn from them and work with them to adapt their technology to Southeast Asia’s needs.”

In May, May Mobility announced a partnership with Itochu aimed at advancing the global rollout of driverless vehicles.

Under the partnership, May Mobility aims to deploy thousands of autonomous vehicles and serve millions of riders through its Tele-assist and Rider Support platforms.
