Malaysian new vehicle sales declined by 1.8% to 48,282 units in November from 49,187 units in the same month last year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

The market looks to have stabilised after a 24% year-on-year drop in September, when the government re-introduced the 10% Sales and Services Tax (SST) following a three-month holiday.

Passenger vehicle sales were 0.5% higher at 43,364 units in November, while commercial vehicle sales plunged by over 18% to 4,918 units.

In the first eleven months of the year overall vehicle sales were 5.3% higher at 550,526 units compared with 522,906 units in the same period of 2017.

Market leader Perodua sold 208,841 vehicles domestically in the first eleven months of the year; followed by Honda with 94,261 units, Toyota 61,241 units; Proton 59,146 units; and Nissan 25,740 units.

Vehicle production in the country rose by close to 19% to 50,304 units in November and by 12.6% to 522,571 units year-to-date.
