“Our customers have fairly good credit ratings. Sales will be boosted by the introduction of new Lexus and Toyota models.”
UMW Toyota Motor president Ismet Suki said: “We aim to capture about 15% of the Malaysian Automotive Association’s forecast of 615,000 units this year.”
Hibi added: “Now, we are in full-scale operations again,” pointing out that disruption of auto parts supply had hit sales in 2011.
Ismet said, “Cars such as the new Toyota Avanza and Camry will boost sales.”
The sporty Toyota 86 will be launched in Malaysia in 2012.
The company also expects 6,000 sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles. Ismet said: “We expect hybrid cars such as the Prius C to be well-received by customers.”
Hibi said that Lexus Malaysia expects a 30% increase in sales in 2012 from 1,711 units sold in 2011.
“For Lexus, we are looking at sales of 100 units of the hybrid CT200h each month, and higher sales of the GS and RX models.”
The company also expects to sell 150 Lexus GS models in 2012. The models are priced between MYR366,200 (US$119,290) to MYR464,800.
