Malaysian sales were off 9.2% year on year to 46,069, the Malaysian Automotive Association told Reuters, adding that sales were 5% lower than in August because of fewer working days.
The association had earlier forecast full-year sales of 500,000 units. Year to date volume was down 7.5% to 397,619 vehicles.
Meanwhile, car and truck sales in Thailand rose 1.6% to 41,328 units after 15 consecutive monthly falls as consumer sentiment improved.
Citing a private university survey, Reuters said consumer confidence there rose for the fourth straight month in September after four consecutive months of decline – confidence last month was the highest since October 2008.
