New vehicle sales in Malaysia rose by 7.5% to 57,622 units in March, from 53,583 units a year earlier, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

First quarter sales rose by 13.8% to 157,664 units, from 138,544 units in the same period of last year.

The association cited buoyant consumer sentiment and new models have helped drive the market forward so far this year, after record sales in 2012.
