New vehicle sales in Malaysia were just slightly higher in November, by 0.2% at 49,184 units from 49,095 units a year earlier, according to registration data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

This follows three months of declining sales and reflects weak underlying demand for passenger vehicles, which declined by just under 1% to 43,152 units from 43,560 units in the same month of last year.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 9% to 6,032 units last month from 5,535 units a year earlier, helped by a strong rebound in economic growth in the country.GDP growth in the first nine months of 2017 is estimated at 5.6%compared with 4.3% in the whole of 2016.

Overall sales in the first eleven months of the year were just 1.3% higher at 521,907 unitscompared with 515,252 units sold in the same period of last year.Passenger car sales amounted to 466,603 units, while commercial vehicle sales were 55,304 units.

Vehicle production in the country fell by 6.7% to 463,993 units in the eleven-month period compared with 497,418 units previously.
