AFX Asia reports that Proton may shelve plans for a production plant in China as the carmaker sees a potential tie-up with Germany’s Volkswagen may possibly provide a faster and more economical entry into the market.


The Star newspaper, citing unnamed surces, said the cost of setting up stand-alone operations in China might be “too huge for Proton” despite the promise that the market holds for vehicle makers around the world.
