Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua), Malaysia’s largest vehicle seller controlled by Japan’s Daihatsu Motor, said it expects its operations will be affected by last month’s devastating earthquakes and tsunamis.

The company’ said disruption would continue at least into the second and third quarters of the year and that it had sufficient inventory to maintain production until May.

Managing director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh added: “We believe this situation is temporary and we will bounce back strongly.”

The company sold 45,700 vehicles in the first quarter to claim a 29% share of the local market.
