Mercedes-Benz plans to spend MYR280m (US$78.5m) in Malaysia over the next four years to further strengthen its sales network.

The company reported a 17% rise in sales in the country last year to 9,419 units, including a 29% rise in passenger car sales to 6,932 units. Sales of the new generation S-class increased by 388% to 635 units.

The automaker expects sales to continue to rise this year despite uncertainty with the introduction of the goods and sales tax scheduled for April. 

It said it has spent MYR500m in Malaysia over the past decade on its sales network and at the assembly plant in Pekan, Pahang.
