Honda Motor’s Malaysian subsidiary plans to invest 100 million ringgit ($25 million) to boost capacity at its Malacca plant to meet rising demand, the Star newspaper reports.

The 170 million ringgit ($45 million) plant is operating beyond the designed capacity of 20,000 units a year, said Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd managing director Seiji Kuraishi.

“We have received about 10,000 bookings for the new (Honda) City alone. We also have bookings for other Honda models as well…so the Malacca plant is having problems coping with the high demand,” Kuraishi said.
