Malaysia’s Proton Holdings reported a 4.8% rise in net profit to MYR 54.55 million in the second quarter of 2009, compared with RM52.03 million in the year-earlier period. Revenues rose by 8% to MYR 1.85 billion, from MYR 1.7 billion a year, helped by the launch of the Exora compact MPV in April.

The company also feels upbeat about its prospects for the rest of the year, citing improving domestic market sentiment and the prospects of further market share gains thanks to the new Exora model.


It also pointed out that the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) recently increased it full-year domestic sales forecast to 500,000 units, from 480,000 previously.


Proton launched the Exora in Singapore and Indonesia in July and plans to launch the model in Thailand by the end of the year, which it expects will help increase its sales significantly in these markets.
