Passenger car sales dropped 7.0% to 30,610 units in April from 32,926 from a year earlier, the Malaysian Automotive Association said in a statement cited by Reuters.

The drop was due to higher interest rates, delays in new car purchases and uncertainty in new car prices, it reportedly said.

Reuters noted that Malaysia’s central bank raised interest rates last month for the third time in five months and that he association expects sales to rise marginally in May due to deliveries of recently launched models and aggressive promotion.
