Geely Auto Group’s luxury brand off-shoot Lynk & Co will begin sales of its second SUV model in China this week, the 02.

The new sports crossover SUV slots in below the existing 01 model – a medium-sized SUV launched last year and based on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform shared with the Volvo XC40.

The 02, aimed at younger buyers, is produced at the new Zhangjiakou plant in Hebei province. Its advanced technology features and overall quality makes it a strong rival to existing luxury models in its class, according to the company.

The 02 is fitted with a 1.5 turbodiesel, all-aluminum engine, which helps keep its weight down.

An Conghui, president and CEO of Geely Auto Group, said his company was currently establishing the brand in China ahead of its planned launch into Europe.

He said a plug-in hybrid version of the 01 would go into production at Volvo Ghent in Belgium next year and go on sale across Europe in the first half of 2020.
