Automaker Lucid Group plans to equip its mid‑size electric vehicle (EV) lineup with Nvidia’s Drive AV platform as part of a roadmap that targets Level 4 consumer autonomy.

The company will begin with enhanced driver‑assist capabilities described as “eyes‑on, point‑to‑point” (L2++) for the Lucid Gravity and its forthcoming midsize models, and progress toward a Level 4 system that the automaker characterises as “eyes‑off, hands‑off, and mind‑off”.

Lucid will pursue Level 4 capability by adopting Nvidia’s multi‑sensor setup, combining cameras, radar and lidar, and fitting its midsize models with two Drive AGX Thor units operating the safety‑assessed DriveOS software.

The centralised AI computing platform, with redundant processors, will consolidate automated driving functions and support continuous over‑the‑air software updates via Nvidia’s scalable, software‑defined architecture, the group explained.

Lucide Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said: “We’ve already set the benchmark in core EV attributes with proprietary technology that results in unmatched range, efficiency, space, performance, and handling.

“Now, we’re taking the next step by combining cutting-edge AI with Lucid’s engineering excellence to deliver the smartest and safest autonomous vehicles on the road. Partnering with Nvidia, we’re proud to continue powering American innovation leadership in the global quest for autonomous mobility.”

The progress started Lucid’s rollout of its internally developed DreamDrive Pro advanced driver assistance system, first introduced on the Lucid Air in 2021.

Lucid recently added hands‑free driving and lane change capabilities to DreamDrive Pro through an over‑the‑air update.

Additional automated driving features will be brought to the Lucid Gravity, which has recently made its European debut.

Lucid also plans to extend Nvidia technology into its manufacturing operations.

Using Nvidia’s industrial platform, the firm intends to apply predictive analytics, intelligent robotics and real‑time process optimisation to enable reconfigurable production lines, enhance quality control and shorten commissioning times.

The approaches will include digital twins of greenfield and brownfield factories to speed collaborative planning, simulation and validation of layouts, and the modelling of autonomous systems to improve robot path planning and safety.

Moreover, using NVIDIA Omniverse and NVIDIA AI Enterprise software libraries, Lucid intends to implement a unified AI factory to develop smart factories and enhance their enterprise.

Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang said: “As vehicles evolve into software-defined supercomputers on wheels, a new opportunity emerges — to reimagine mobility with intelligence at every turn.

“Together with Lucid, we’re accelerating the future of autonomous, AI-powered transportation, built on NVIDIA’s full-stack automotive platform.”
