Lucid Group has agreed to acquire certain facilities and assets in Arizona, US, that were once owned by the now-bankrupt electric and hydrogen-powered truck manufacturer Nikola.

The deal, however, excludes the purchase of Nikola’s operations, clientele, or any technology associated with Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks.

Under the deal, Lucid will expand its Arizona operations by taking over Nikola’s former manufacturing facility in Coolidge and the Phoenix facility, which served as Nikola’s headquarters and product development centre.

This expansion adds over 884,000ft2 to Lucid’s footprint in the state and includes advance manufacturing and warehousing buildings.

The facilities to be acquired are equipped with advanced development tools, including comprehensive battery and environmental testing chambers, a full-scale chassis dynamometer, precision machining equipment, among other assets.

Lucid interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said: “As we continue our production ramp of Lucid Gravity and prepare for our upcoming midsize platform vehicles, acquiring these assets is an opportunity to strategically expand our manufacturing, warehousing, testing, and development facilities while supporting our local Arizona community.

“We are delighted to extend employment offers to more than 300 former employees, who bring valuable industry experience, and together with our outstanding teams, will continue powering Lucid’s industry-leading innovation.”

Lucid’s acquisition, which follows Nikola’s bankruptcy auction that which concluded on 10 April 2025, is subject to approval by the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

Lucid is planning to hire more than 300 former Nikola employees, filling various roles in manufacturing engineering, software, assembly, vehicle testing, and warehouse support.

In February 2025, Nikola filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy following a series of difficulties, including weak demand and financial strains.

The firm entered the bankruptcy proceedings with approximately $47m in cash, which supports its activities and the sale process.
