Electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid Group has secured a $300m investment from Uber Technologies, marking a significant milestone in their collaboration on a next-generation premium worldwide robotaxi programme.

Announced in July, this strategic funding is set to bolster the development of an autonomous robotaxi platform that will be manufactured at Lucid’s facility in Arizona, US, and exclusively operated on the ride-hailing platform of Uber.

Uber’s plan includes deploying over 20,000 Lucid vehicles within six years as part of the programme.

The robotaxi service is expected to debut in a major US city in 2026.

The service will feature Lucid Gravity’s advanced software-defined vehicle architecture, Nuro Driver Level 4 autonomy system, and Uber’s extensive network and fleet management capabilities, offering a robotaxi experience focused on safety and scalability.

Lucid Gravity’s EV technology platform, known for its redundant electrical and control architectures and impressive range, will be a key component of the robotaxi’s design, making it well-suited for a scalable service.
