BMW has now confirmed the world premieres of the X5 M and X6 M for November’s LA international auto show.
These high performance versions of the X5 and X6 are powered by the same 423kW (567hp) 4.4-litre biturbo petrol V8. Torque is quoted as 750 Nm (553 lb-ft). In the previous shape cars, this engine produced 408kW (555hp). The former six-speed automatic gearbox is replaced by an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. Fitted with standard all-wheel drive, the new models are claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds. Top speed is limited to 250km/h (155 mph).
Other differences over existing X5 and X6 variants are ride heights that have been lowered by 10mm, M Servotronic steering system and specially tuned suspension. A high-performance braking system with Dark Blue metallic callipers is also unique to these vehicles, while a Dynamic Damper Control system is also fitted. This has three modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport+.
External changes include a new front bumper and grille, aerodynamic side skirts and mirrors and 21-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport UHP tires. The rear bumper is also bespoke and incorporates a diffuser which is flanked by a four-tailpipes.
BMW USA says these models will be on sale next Spring. The X5 M is priced from US$99,650, while the X6 M is listed at US$103,050.
