SsangYong Motor Co is allowing some 350 of it workers to take paid leave, in an effort to cut costs.
A statement from the company said the plan was aimed at “flexibly responding to a global economic recession.” The move has been taken as the automaker, the South Korean unit of China’s Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, has experienced falling sales.
According to local reports, Ssangyong is unsure how long the paid leave will last for workers.
In July, Ssangyong Motor, an SUV specialist and South Korea’s smallest automaker, said it would shut down its plant for almost three weeks over the summer because of slow demand for its vehicles.
