Korea’s three major vehicle makers have been ordered by the country’s
Construction and Transportation Ministry to correct alleged practices of falsely
labelling engine outputs on their passenger cars by the end of this month.
The Ministry report showed that Hyundai was alleged to have labelled the 2.0-litre
EF Sonata at 147ps, with the actual figure being 133ps, a rise of 10.5 per cent.
Daewoo reportedly labelled the engine capacity of its 2.0-litre Magnus sedan
model at 148ps when 130ps was the actual output, a boost of 13 per cent. And
Kia was alleged to have falsely rated the output of its 2.0-litre Credos model
15.8 per cent higher at 146ps when the actual figure was 126ps.

The false labelling complaints will be filed with the Fair Trade Commission
and the ministry plans to broaden its investigation to other auto manufacturers.
