Chinese bus-maker Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Company said it shipped a total of 200 high-end buses to Cyprus this week, after the company stepped up its export drive earlier this year to offset falling domestic demand.

King Long said the 200 buses are fitted with an automated “self-sanitising” disinfectant spraying system to reduce the risk of COVID19 coronavirus infections inside the passenger compartment.

The company said the buses, shipped from its headquarters in Xiamen this week, are to be used as public service vehicles in and around Cyprus’ capital city Nicosia.

King Long executive Zhao Yutong said “the purchase and manufacture of the buses was greatly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The company had to overcome a wide range of difficulties, including purchasing components from Europe, in order to ensure delivery”.

The company has exported some 5,000 buses since resuming operations in China on 18th February, to markets including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Chile.
