Kia Corporation began taking pre-orders for its new PV5 van/minibus range in South Korea, the first in a series of battery-powered purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) the company plans to launch over the next few years based on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP dedicated electric platform.
The PV5 is a mid-sized PBV designed both for personal use, such as commuting and leisure activities, and also as a commercial van for last-mile logistics. It will initially be available in two main configurations, passenger and cargo. It uses Kia’s new Flexible Body System, which features modular components allowing customized seating and cargo area layouts to closely meet user needs.
It is powered by a 120 kW electric motor and a 71 kWh battery pack, giving it a maximum driving range of 358 km on a single charge.
The van version, which has a spacious cargo area and low loading height, is available in three trims, compact, long and high roof, with prices starting at around US 19,000. Prices for the passenger model start at around US$ 22,000.
