The redesigned K3 is powered by a 1.6 litre petrol engine with fuel economy of 15.2km per litre – 10% better than the outgoing model. The car also boasts safety features such as front collision avoidance plus blind spot collision and driver attention warning systems.

Kia said it spent five years developing the car’s new SmartStream powertrain, including its intelligent variable transmission system.

Prices for the new K3 in South Korea start at KRW16m (US$14,850).

The company aims to sell 150,000 units of new model world wide this year, including 50,000 units in South Korea. This is expected to rise to 250,000 units in 2019 – the first full year of sales.
