Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has announced that it plans to launch a new passenger vehicle model during the ‘Singles Day’ shopping festival in November 2025, in partnership with state-owned automaker GAC Group and local battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL).

JD confirmed that it will be responsible for exclusive sales of the new battery-powered passenger vehicle, with the official launch scheduled to take place on the 9th November on its JD online marketplace, in a move industry analysts said should help drive up sales of new energy vehicles in the country.

The vehicle, developed in collaboration with GAC Group and CATL, is scheduled to undergo internal and public testing at the end of this month, with production to be carried out by GAC Group. Prices are expected to range between CNY 100,000 and CNY 120,000 (US$ 14,000 – US$ 16,850). CATL contributed its battery technology and will provide its battery-swapping ecosystem support.

JD said almost 80,000 consumers have so far searched for information about the model on its app, where they can also book test drives. The company continues to expand its presence in the country’s automotive sector, including online sales, usage and trade-in services. It also offers a wide range of auto parts and accessories and maintenance services to its customers.
