Wireless charging for the Nissan Leaf is to become an option from 2013, the company says. The system will consist of an induction coil that would be attached to a garage floor or office carpark space which the owner simply drives the car over. Sensors recognise the vehicle and the normal eight-hour recharge begins.
According to Nissan, wireless charging cannot be retrofitted to the Leaf. The company also notes that scheduled recharging can be controlled via the owner’s mobile phone. As for the pad itself, it does not need to be covered up and poor weather should not affect its performance. The company has not said whether or not there is any danger to humans or animals which might step onto the pad.
