September saw the first fall in a year in car production in Japan – off 12.4% year on year to 773,990 units according to JAMA, the country’s carmakers’ association.

The fall was blamed on the ending of government subsidies for people buying low-emission cars and the ongoing dispute with China over the Senkaku/Diaoyu islands in the East China Sea.
