New vehicle sales in Japan increased marginally in June, by 0.4% to 452,555 units from 450,825 units in the same month of last year, according to data released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

The market looks to have stabilised after moderate declines in April and May, following a hike in sales tax from 5% to 8% at the beginning of April.

The market’s strong first-quarter growth means first-half sales increased by 10.8% to 3,005,807 units, from 2,711,645 units in the first half of 2013.
