Toyota’s Aqua (Prius C) subcompact hybrid was the top selling car in Japan for the second straight month in August, industry data showed.
Sales of the Aqua came to 21,142 units. Honda’s N Box minivehicle, with sales of 17,995 units, rose to second place from fourth in July, while Toyota’s Prius hybrid ranked third with sales of 16,759 units, down from second.

Sales of fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles and minivehicles remained brisk. Seven of the top 10 models were minivehicles, Jiji Press reported.
Of the minivehicles other than the N Box, Daihatsu’s Move ranked fourth with sales of 14,488 units, Suzuki’s Wagon R fifth with 12,070 units, Suzuki’s Spacia sixth with 10,477 units, Daihatsu’s Mira seventh with 10,417 units, Nissan’s Dayz eighth with 9,598 units and Daihatsu’s Tanto 10th with 8,391 units.
Nissan’s Note was ninth with sales of 8,783 units.
