Toyota will set up a car sales subsidiary in Mexico by the end of fiscal year
2001, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper reported at the weekend.

The strategic move will come ahead of the 2004 lifting of a ban on imports
from firms who do not manufacture their products in Mexico.

Until the ban is lifted, Toyota will import U.S-made cars using quotas granted
to group vehicle parts makers Denso and Aisin Seiki, both of which have manufacturing
operations in Mexico.
