Toyota says it is expecting its global auto sales in 2009 to top the targeted 6.5m units thanks to national incentive schemes that are boosting markets.
Auto sales are likely to exceed the sales projection, announced in May, due largely to the growth of sales in Japan, the United States and Asian markets such as China, said an unnamed Toyota executive cited by the Kyodo news agency.
However, the executive warned on the 2010 outlook.
”We cannot expect an increase (in global auto sales) next year as the incentives will expire sooner or later,’ he said.
In 2008, Toyota sold 7,996,000 vehicles worldwide, Kyodo noted.
