The news agency said project in Kentucky will mark Toyota’s second overseas production of an environment-friendly hybrid vehicle as the biggest Japanese automaker plans to start producing its Prius car in China this autumn.
The officials told AP that the Camry is the best seller in the US passenger car market with sales reaching 420,000 units last year and Toyota believes application of hybrid technology to the model will become commercially viable in the medium to long term.
Toyota is due to carry out a full model changeover on the Camry in 2006, the Associated Press noted.
