Toyota wants to become the first automaker in the world to break through the 10m vehicle production barrier this year.
The carmaker, which includes Daihatsu and Hino, has not formally revised its projection of 9.94m vehicles this year but has presented a plan to suppliers to add more than 100,000 vehicles to initially forecast output in the April to September period, according to the Kyodo News agency.
Toyota is experiencing stronger than expected domestic sales while projecting a recovery in exports. There could also be a spike in demand for vehicles before the planned sales tax increase in Japan next April.
