Toyota Motor Corp. began selling small trucks Tuesday (10/10/00) that run on compressed natural gas, writes Kyodo News Service/Associated Press (10/10/00) – the first time the company has introduced ‘green’ vehicles to the domestic market.

The company, which has entrusted Hino Motors Ltd. – one of its group companies – to produce the vehicle, expects to sell 30 Dyna and Toyoace models per month with prices starting from 4.4 million yen.

Isuzu Motors Ltd. was – until Tuesday (10/10/00) – the only auto manufacturer producing vehicles that ran on natural gas for the Japanese market. Both Honda Motor Co. and Toyota produce such vehicles for the North American market, according to the press agencies.
