Toyota Motor group plans to sell 8.3m vehicles worldwide, up 6% on 2009, it announced today.

Toyota brand sales are also seen rising 6% to 7.4m with Daihatsu up 3% to 770,000 and Hino up 24% to 100,000 trucks.

Toyota expects sales in Japan, where the government recently extended old car scrapping incentives six months to the end of September, to rise 9% to 1.5m while overseas sales are seen up 5% to 5.9m.

Group global sales last year fell 13% to 7.8m versus 2008, the year Toyota finally dislodged General Motors as the world’s top automaker by volume.

Sales in Japan fell 7% to just under 2m while overseas sales of 5.8m were off 15%.
